Last night on the Latino Media Collective on Pacifica Radio WPFW 89.3 FM, TheFightBack‘s Pete Tucker joined hosts Oscar Fernandez and Norberto Martinez for a discussion on Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans’ conflict of interest regarding the convention center hotel and the lack of coverage it has received in the Washington Post.

The proposed Adams Morgan hotel was also discussed on the program. The project attempts to use $46 million in government subsidies to demolish the building which presently houses WPFW in order to construct a 175-room luxury boutique hotel to be operated by Marriott (which will also own and operate the convention center hotel). The proposed hotel falls within the Reed-Cooke Overlay District which prohibits buildings of this size, so it’s not clear how the project can move forward without trampling existing local regulations. Local reporter Anthony Harvey of the Intowner, who TheFightBack interviewed last year, continues to do great reporting on the proposed hotel.

The last issue discussed on the Latino Media Collective was the removal of Washington Teachers’ Union General Vice President Candi Peterson. Seven months after the membership of the Washington Teachers’ Union elected Candi Peterson, she was unceremoniously, and possibly illegally, removed from office at the behest of WTU President Nathan Saunders.
